This Valentine’s Day Will Be Better Than Last Year

“Ok singles in just a moment, we’re going to have you all mingle!” The event host made the announcement from stage and in that moment I knew, I couldn’t stay. This was my first Valentine’s Day single since I was 16 and I wasn’t ready. I got up and tried to find the exit as quick as possible. I could feel the room spinning and then everything got blurry. I couldn’t hold back my tears and the panic started to set in. All I could think was, “Why am I here? I don’t belong here.” That moment was an overwhelming reminder of a reality I didn’t want. No one gets married to get divorced.
But here I was, now well into my 30’s and trying to figure out what was next. I was struggling. Somehow I thought if I had a person validate and value me I would feel better.
That was a year ago and now more than ever I realize I already have that.
Jesus validates me and He values me.
Not just that, but I can never be more loved than I already am. There’s nothing wrong with going to a singles event, but this year I’ll be staying home. I plan to make a nice dinner for my friends and family, and that’s more than enough for me.
I’m secure in who I am in Christ and because of that, this Valentine’s Day will be better than last year.
I don’t know what this Valentine’s Day looks like for you; maybe you’re single, married, or it’s complicated. Whatever the case I hope you know just how loved you are!
Here are a few reminders:
How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! Psalm 139:17
For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might have eternal life. John 3:16
O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help. Psalm 86:5
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Deuteronomy 31:8
God’s love is worth relentlessly seeking after. He is good, He is faithful, and the BEST Valentine!
With love, your friend Reyna
