3 Habits for Spiritual Health in the New Year

Maybe you’re like me and the end of the year makes you feel like time is just flying by and you have little to show for it. What happened to our 2022 resolutions!?

What I have come to realize is that resolutions and goals focus on perfection, but habits focus on new rhythms that give you permission to fail and start again! As the New Year approaches, I wanted to loosen the pressures of perfection and instead share 3 new habits that you can start today to promote peace and good spiritual health in your life:

1) Scripture

Do you find it hard to make time to read your Bible? Many times we excuse ourselves because of busyness and put it off for another day. But did you know that reading the Bible four or more times per week is statistically proven to make a positive change in your life? We know your schedule is probably hectic, so we made a way to easily listen to a chapter of the Bible every weekday! The On Ramp: Daily Bible Reading is a simple way to engage God’s Word. Here’s the best part, if you miss a day… don’t worry about catching up! Keep moving forward with us.

2) Prayer

As busy people, it can be all to easy to forget to pray until there is something we want or need from God. But prayer is less about asking for things and more about a conversation with God! Time and time again, God has spoken to my heart as I was praying for others. Make it a daily rhythm to go online and pray for 10 people on our Prayer Wall. I can guarantee it will never be wasted time!

“Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” – James 5:16 NLT

3) Music

Anyone who has worked in a stressful environment knows that it is easy to become what we spend the most time around, for better or worse. The challenges of life won’t disappear just because it is a new year, but maybe our outlook could change with something as small as what type of music we listen to! Challenge yourself to listen to uplifting Christian music on KSBJ every day for the first 30 days of the new year. We hope this small habit will make a positive impact on your life, bringing you both joy and peace!

A Christian missionary once said,

“Only one life, ‘twill soon be past. Only what’s done for Christ will last.” – C. T. Studd

God’s purpose for us in 2023 isn’t for us to perfectly keep a resolution but to build new habits that create positive change in our lives and in the lives of those around us.
