Things Can Change When We Pay Attention

From: MorganMost days, we encounter dozens of people along our path. The cashier at the grocery store. The guy pumping gas at the next pump. The woman helping schedule your dentist appointment. And even when those interactions are pleasant, it’s rare for them to become something memorable … or life-changing.
A few weeks ago, Caleb Killough was going door-to-door in Keller for his company, offering home renovation services, when he knocked on Melinda Potosky’s door.

The moment she answered, something about her felt familiar. Caleb later shared that she reminded him of his “Gammy,” who had passed away.
He asked Ms. Melinda how her day was going, and she explained that she had just gotten home from the hospital. She’s currently in kidney failure and receiving dialysis treatments. In that moment, Caleb’s sales pitch completely faded into the background and he realized he was there for a much more important reason.
What she needed most was kindness, compassion, and someone willing to listen.
As they talked, Caleb learned that Ms. Melinda had also recently lost her husband. Feeling led to pray for her, he stopped right there on her front porch and prayed. The moment was captured on her doorbell camera.
Ms. Melinda was so touched by the interaction that she later contacted Caleb’s company, Texas Home Improvement, simply to tell them how kind he had been. She wanted them to know what a wonderful young man they had representing their business.
But the story didn’t end there.
The following week, Caleb returned to Ms. Melinda’s home with incredible news. Her house was badly in need of repairs, and the company had decided they were going to take care of the work completely free of charge.
The gesture left her emotional, grateful, and nearly speechless. What started as an ordinary knock at the door became a friendship that clearly meant something deeply to both of them.
Sometimes, I think we wait for big, dramatic signs about how God wants to use us. But more often, it’s found in the small, quiet moments — when we slow down long enough to notice someone hurting and listen to that gentle nudge in our hearts.
