How Smart is your dog

April 9th, 2008

If you’re like most dog owners, you think you’ve got the smartest pooch on the planet. Still, have you ever wondered why some dogs can herd sheep, and rescue people from avalanches. While other dogs can’t even seem to master “sit” and “stay.” Then here’s an IQ test to help you figure out if your pup’s the canine equivalent of Albert Einstein. We got this from MSNBC. Just remember, don’t do the tests all in one day.  Your dog might get confused and overwhelmed – and wonder why you’ve suddenly gone crazy.
• There’s the towel test. Take a large towel or blanket, and gently put it over your dog’s head. If he gets free in less than 15 seconds, he’s sharp. If it’s longer than a minute, give him an “E” for effort.
• The next doggie IQ test: The bucket trick. Put three buckets next to each other, and let him watch while you put a dog treat or his favorite toy under one. Then, turn the dog away from the buckets. After a few seconds, let him find the treat. If he immediately goes to the correct bucket, that’s a sign of intelligence. If he has to check all three buckets – well, he can still get by on his looks.
• Then there’s the favorite spot  test. Rearrange the furniture while your dog’s out of the room. If he comes in and goes directly to his favorite spot, he’s an “A” student. If he picks a whole new area to snuggle down, he’s an average student.
• The final dog IQ test: Go for an unexpected walk. Pick a time you don’t normally walk your dog and while he’s watching, quietly pick up your keys and grab his leash. If he immediately gets excited, he’s bright. If you have to walk to the door before he catches on, well, he still gets to go for a walk.
You can keep the test results between you, your dog, and his favorite tree.

Here’s How to Grill Your Daughter’s Date With Tips From FBI Profilers

March 31st, 2008

These agents specialize in profiling individuals in order to predict behavior. Use these tips to rest easy until your daughter comes home at curfew, courtesy of Rodale Publishing:.

• Tip #1 from FBI agents – ask your daughter for her date’s full name ahead of time and then Google him, look him up on My Space, Facebook and You Tube. Any personal profiles or videos that come up will give you a good sense of his personality. Check out his favorite movies, books and videogames. According to Clint Van Zandt, who worked for the FBI for 25 years, reality mimics fantasy. He says he can’t tell you how many times he’s asked a criminal where they got their ideas and they’ve said they saw it in a movie.

• Then, when he gets to the house, evaluate his clothing. John Douglas, a former FBI investigative chief, says what a person wears reflects their overall level of judgment. So a jacket, combed hair, and cologne say – ‘I care. I’m trying to put my best foot forward.’ Camouflage pants, unwashed hair and body odor say ‘I only care about myself – and even then, not so much.’

• If the guy has any visible tattoos or piercings – ask about them. Generally the more in-your-face they are, the more they represent a cry for attention. People who demand that others notice them, may have trouble being sensitive to another person’s needs. Ask about the meaning behind the body art. It’ll provide insight into his character.

• As you’re talking to your daughter’s date – let the conversation stop. See how he fills the pause. That puts a person on edge and you can see how they handle stress.

• Finally, the FBI agents recommend that you directly state what your expectations are when he’s out with your daughter. Watch his body language. If he folds his arms and moves away, no matter how subtly, he’s resisting what you’re saying. So take down his license plate number, just in case.

My Esther Year Begins

March 21st, 2008

Ester Year

I lost a loved Aunt over the weekend.  My Aunt Jo was such a loving woman, from the time I was little she was a part of our life, and she was full of life too.  But my Aunt Jo was always concerned about her appearance, she was a beautiful woman, looked like a model when we children were younger.  But as she aged she worried more about her appearance, and she never knew how very beautiful she was to all of the rest of us!  She had a joy inside her that bubbled over all of the time.  She used to dance us around the kitchen singing silly songs.  One of our favorite memories as children is that when she would wax the floor in her house she would make chocolate chip cookies and then call our house - she’d say grab your socks and come over the floor is slick and the cookies are warm!  We’d(all six kids my brothers and her kids) would slide all over that floor crashing into each other and laughing til we couldn’t stand up any more - and then she’d break out the cookies.  She wouldn’t give you a toy…she’d help you play with it!  When she was in her 60s she and Uncle Bob made the trip to Oklahoma to visit me and my girls - when they surprised us with the visit my girls were in the backyard playing on their new Slip n Slide.  As my Aunt Jo walked out into the back yard to say hello to the kids, she instead yelled, “Hey! wanna know how to make that slicker!  You’ll slide faster and farther!”  She then told my daughters about using Baby Shampoo on their Slip N Slide - and after they put it on there - the first one to slide on it slid all the way off the end and to the fence.  We laughed so hard!  It was her way.  She had this beautiful young spirit in her.  She used to make up silly songs to sing to us when she was trying to cheer us all up.  She was always the one that made you feel loved.  That is a beautiful woman, but one that didn’t know how very beautiful she was, because she worried so much about the external.  I am reminded my Sistahs that we are not only about the outside beauty in our Ester year, we are about putting back the beautiful childlike spirit - about growing the loving spirit and the joy.  We are about being beautiful inside and knowing that makes us much more beautiful outside too.   Please take a lesson from my Aunt Jo…play, sing, dance in your socks and laugh until you can’t breathe! And then do it again!

Easter is coming and I’ve been thinking about the newness(if that’s even a word) that it offers us.  It’s perfect for those of us Sistahs on this Ester journey.  Jesus’ death and burial and then His resurrection was the end of what had been in a world where sacrifices were given over and over again to atone for sin and wrong.  Now, this side of Easter,  it’s like Jesus said on the cross - “it is finished”! The sacrifice has been given, once and for all (who will accept it).  It begins the new with a resurrected Jesus and the gift of the Holy Spirit as a Comforter and Guide.  We are NEW with new mercies.

As we take this Ester journey together, we’ll have days when the new mercies will be needed to start again..grace is given by Christ who purchased that grace for us with His own blood.  If we are healed by the stripes He endured, then my Sistahs, we must endeavor to live healed lives with healed hearts full of grace for others and for OURSELVES!  Have a beautiful Easter and remember Ester days mean we’re beautiful and getting more beautiful every day!

Easter proves it! You ARE loved, Sistah Susie O

Here’s a recent picture of Abby outside on our patio the other evening. Just last week, Becky got a Canon Rebel XTi from a friend. I am so amazed at the quality of the pictures she is getting. She doesn’t think she is a great photographer, but I do. She has decided to post a picture a day every day for 30 days in order to practice. If you want to see them they are on her blog.

The Sky Angel Cowboy…

February 24th, 2008

The Sky Angel Cowboy! Since posting this audio it has taken on a life of its own. People are forwarding it all over the world. Some corrections… We originally said Logan was 12. He actually turned 13 in August, so we don’t want to deprive him of such a big birthday. Logan listens to us (89.3 KSBJ which broadcasts from Houston, TX) on Sky Angel because he lives on a ranch in a very small town in Nebraska. He called us distraught because he had to take down a calf. His words have wisdom beyond his years.

Listen to what Logan had to say…

A huge thanks to Frank Lazano the Media Director at Velencia Hills Community Church in California. He took the phone call from Logan and created this flash presentation.

Did you Know that Logan was on CBN’s 700 Club?

If you are out of the area you can listen our great Christian music online as well at www.ksbj.org

We have had reports of radio stations playing Logan… If you are from a radio station please email us so we can keep track of where Logan has been. morningshow@ksbj.org

A message from Logan’s Mom….

I am Logan’s Mom………I don’t know how many come back to read these after they have blogged but I thought it was time to thank so many of you for the love and acceptance of my son’s heart. It truly was a work of God and it has increased Logan’s faith and brought healing to his heart in more ways than one!! We appreicate your prayers so much. We praise God that this message from Him has brought hope and healing to many of you. Our God is truly an awesome God. May His works continue to go forth through KSBJ, in Jesus name.

Yes, we look forward to what God has in store for Logan. We have known for some time that God has given him a gift of communicating to people’s hearts. We saw signs of it even as a little boy. We homeschool our children and truly enjoy our time with Logan and his sister Erica who is 9.

So, thank you to all of you for your loving responses to a young man’s growing heart. Your prayers have reaped more than you know and will continue to reap heavenly power in this lost and dying world. Praise be to our everlasting Father God in all this!!

With alll my love and thanks,
Tee Jay Henderson

Don’t Worry About Tomorrow.

February 19th, 2008

Rejoice Today
“This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
————————————————————————–
Do you ever have trouble enjoying today because you re thinking about tomorrow?
To be truthful, I have been guilty of this more times than I want to admit. Thank God He has been patient with me… reminding  me that today is the most important day in my life. Today is so important that I am to rejoice in it! Psalm 118:24 instructs us that the Lord has made our day and Our Maker wants us to be happy about it.
Focusing on any day but today will rob us of the potential joy and blessing that only today can bring. I have found that thinking past today and dwelling on tomorrow is a trap. Tomorrow can trip us up from enjoying today.

I am getting ahead of God.
I am missing the blessings of today.
I am overlooking opportunities today brings my way.
I am presuming that tomorrow will come.

Rejoicing and being glad in today is all about attitude. What today will be is up to me!
